What this is

e2i — short for the Employment and Employability Institute — is NTUC's career-services arm. It runs free job matching, career coaching, and training subsidies for anyone looking for work in Singapore. If you've been retrenched, your contract ended, or you're trying to switch industries, e2i is the fastest place to talk to a human who can put real job leads in front of you.

Five centres cover the island. Some are open Saturdays. Walk-ins are accepted at most locations, but booking ahead means a career coach will be ready for you.

Who should walk in

Drop by e2i if any of these describes you:

  • You were retrenched or your contract just ended.
  • You've been unemployed for a while and need help getting back in.
  • You're mid-career and want to switch industries but don't know where to start.
  • You're working but earning very little and want to upskill into something better-paying.
  • You need help writing a resume or preparing for interviews.

What to bring

  • Your IC (NRIC).
  • A resume if you have one — they can help build one if you don't.
  • Your retrenchment letter if applicable.
  • Some idea of what you'd like to do next, but it's fine if you're not sure.

Common questions

What does e2i do?

e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) is NTUC's career arm. Free job matching, career coaching, resume help, interview prep, and access to training subsidies. They work especially well with rank-and-file workers, mid-career switchers, and anyone retrenched.

Is e2i free?

Yes. Career coaching and job matching cost nothing. Training subsidies vary by course — your coach will walk you through what you qualify for, including SkillsFuture Jobseeker Support if you've recently lost work involuntarily.

Do I need to be a union member?

No. e2i serves everyone, not just NTUC members. Members get a few extra perks (priority placement, deeper subsidies for some courses) but the core services are open to all.

Should I go to e2i or an SSO?

Both, often. e2i deals with re-employment — getting you back to work. SSO deals with the income gap while you're looking. Many people who've lost work start with e2i for the job pipeline and also visit an SSO for ComCare interim cash. The two don't overlap.

What does an appointment look like?

Around an hour with a career coach. They'll go through your work history, what you're looking for, and what's available. You may walk out with interviews booked. If you need a skills bump, they'll point you at courses with government subsidies attached.
