FAQ

Common questions

What to know about cancheck before you use it, or before you tell someone else about it.

About cancheck

Is cancheck official? Is it run by the Singapore government?

No. cancheck is independent. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Singapore government. It is free to use and built to help residents find the right assistance faster. All scheme data comes from official government and VWO websites and is audited regularly.

Is cancheck free?

Yes. cancheck is completely free to use and will remain free. There are no hidden fees, no premium tiers, and no subscriptions.

What is the difference between cancheck and SupportGoWhere?

SupportGoWhere is the official government scheme directory. cancheck is a matching tool. Instead of browsing a list, you tell cancheck what you're dealing with and it tells you what matches and who to call first. cancheck routes you to people (SSOs, FSCs) rather than application portals.

Privacy and data

Do I need Singpass to use cancheck?

No. cancheck does not require Singpass, a login, or any account. You can use it anonymously on any device.

Does cancheck save my information?

Your personal answers (income, housing, citizenship, household) never leave your browser. They are not sent to a server, not stored in a database, and not shared with anyone. When you close the tab or press 'Start again', they are gone.

Does cancheck use cookies or track me?

cancheck does not use cookies. We do collect anonymous usage analytics — like which situation card was tapped or which helpline was clicked — to improve the tool. This is done through Vercel Analytics and PostHog, both cookie-free and configured without personal identifiers. Screen recording is off. Your answers and personal details are never included in this data.

Who can use it

Who can use cancheck?

Any Singapore resident can use cancheck. It covers schemes for Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents, and some schemes that apply to others. There is also a dedicated pathway for migrant workers, which directs to organisations like the Migrant Workers' Centre (MWC) that serve all nationalities.

Can social workers or VWO staff use cancheck with clients?

Yes. Share cancheck.co with clients as a starting point before their appointment. It helps them understand what might be available and what to ask about. Social workers also use it as a reference — it covers a wide range of schemes including some from smaller VWOs that may not be front-of-mind.

Can migrant workers use cancheck?

Yes. cancheck has a dedicated pathway for migrant workers that routes to organisations like the Migrant Workers' Centre (MWC) and TWC2. Most Singapore government schemes are limited to Citizens and PRs, but these organisations provide support regardless of nationality or work permit status.

How it works

What schemes does cancheck cover?

cancheck covers 649 schemes from government agencies (MSF, MOH, MOE, HDB, CPF, MOM, CDCs), Voluntary Welfare Organisations (Red Cross, Tzu-Chi, SINDA, CDAC, MENDAKI, Catholic Welfare Services, and 100+ others), and community organisations across Singapore. The scheme database was last audited on 2026-05-03.

How does cancheck decide what matches me?

cancheck uses a three-layer matching engine. First, it identifies your situation and demographic profile from your answers. Then it checks each scheme against your income, household size, citizenship, housing type, and situation. Last, it assigns a confidence level (from Automatic to Worth checking) based on how closely your profile fits each scheme's eligibility rules.

What happens at the end? Does cancheck apply for schemes on my behalf?

No. cancheck does not apply for anything on your behalf. At the end of your check, you get a gateway card — the right first contact for your situation. This is always a person or office: an SSO officer, a medical social worker, an FSC counsellor. cancheck tells you who to call, what to say, and what to bring. The application happens with them.

What if I don't qualify for anything?

Even if no schemes match closely, cancheck always provides a gateway — usually the nearest Social Service Office (SSO) or Family Service Centre (FSC). These offices can do a full needs assessment and connect you to help that cancheck may not have captured. Don't hesitate to walk in — they are there to help, not to judge.

How current is the scheme information?

The scheme database is audited regularly against official government and VWO sources. The last full audit was on 2026-05-03. Scheme eligibility criteria change from time to time — always verify with the relevant agency before applying.

Accuracy and limitations

Can I trust the results cancheck gives me?

cancheck gives you a good starting point, not a definitive answer. Confidence levels like 'Strong match' or 'Likely' are based on what you told us and the eligibility rules in our database. The final assessment is always done by the agency or VWO you visit. cancheck reduces the chance of missing something. It does not replace a human assessment.

cancheck told me I qualify, but the agency said I don't. Why?

Eligibility can be more detailed than cancheck can capture from a short questionnaire. Agencies look at your full household picture: assets, other benefits you already receive, case history. cancheck is a guide, not a guarantee. If you were declined, ask the agency to explain why. You may qualify for something else. If you've applied, been rejected, and think something was missed, your MP's Meet-the-People Session (MPS) can help you appeal. Go to the agency first. MPS is for when you've already tried and hit a wall.

A scheme I know about is missing from cancheck. What do I do?

We're always improving the database. If you know of a scheme that should be included, email cancheck@proton.me with the scheme name and provider. We'll review and add it in the next audit cycle.
